Dr Antje Scharenberg

Antje is a social movement scholar and has been an International Postdoctoral Fellow at the Chair of Media and Culture at the University of St. Gallen. Her research focused on transnational social movements in Europe and what it means to have agency beyond the nation-state in times of border-crossing challenges, arising, for instance, in the context of migration, climate change or digital capitalism.

In her ESRC-funded PhD research, which she undertook at Goldsmiths, University of London, from 2016 to 2020, Antje explored such questions in the context of alter-European activist networks.

From 2020 to 2022 Antje’s focus in the Human Error Project has been on how civil society actors are building collective agency in the face of ever more present algorithmic decision making as well as questions regarding data justice, data feminism and transnational alliances of civil society. She has coordinate the work package dedicated to civil society organizations.
